The Scissortail Goby is a sleek and peaceful reef fish known for its elongated body, forked “scissor-like” tail, and subtle coloration highlighted by blue and yellow accents. This active planktivore grows to approximately 5 inches in length and spends much of its time hovering gracefully in the water column above rockwork. Scissortail Gobies are generally peaceful toward other species and may even be kept in groups in larger aquariums. Their calm temperament and constant movement make them an excellent addition to community reef tanks.

The Scissortail Goby thrives in peaceful reef aquariums with ample open swimming space and secure rockwork for retreating when startled. A tightly covered aquarium of at least 55 gallons is recommended, as this species is known to jump when frightened. Scissortail Gobies should be added before more aggressive fish to help ensure they settle in comfortably and feed confidently.

As a carnivore and planktivore, the Scissortail Goby requires a varied diet of small meaty foods offered multiple times daily. Feed PE Mysis, Hikari Brine Shrimp, PE Cyclopods, and finely sized marine pellets such as New Life Spectrum Marine Formula or TDO ChromaBoost to maintain excellent health and coloration.
