Physical description:
The Sailfin Tang is instantly recognizable by its tall, dramatic dorsal and anal fins, which expand like sails when fully extended. Its body features alternating bands of yellow, brown, and white with delicate spotting that becomes more intricate as it matures. This species grows large in captivity and develops impressive finnage that makes it a standout centerpiece fish. Sailfin Tangs are active, confident swimmers with a generally peaceful temperament toward most tankmates.

Suitable tank description:
Due to their adult size and need for ample swimming space, Sailfin Tangs require a minimum tank size of 180 gallons. They should be introduced only after the aquarium has fully matured and stabilized, as they are sensitive to fluctuations in water quality. Provide plenty of open water along with rockwork for grazing and shelter.

Diet description:
Offer a varied diet including high-quality foods from San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum to support long-term health and coloration. As a heavy algae grazer, the Sailfin Tang benefits greatly from supplemental Julian Sprung’s Sea Veggies offered daily.
