The Red Collar Snail is an attractive and highly effective algae-grazing marine snail recognized for the distinctive reddish coloration around the opening of its shell and its sturdy, rounded appearance. Reaching an adult size of approximately 2 inches, this active grazer spends most of its time moving across rockwork and glass surfaces consuming nuisance algae and biofilm. Red Collar Snails are peaceful and reef safe, making them an excellent addition to cleanup crews in both reef and fish-only systems. Their hardy nature and strong grazing behavior make them especially useful in established aquariums with moderate algae growth.

The Red Collar Snail thrives in mature marine aquariums with stable water quality and abundant natural algae for grazing. A minimum tank size of 10 gallons is recommended, though larger systems support more stable food availability and water conditions. This species should be added once the aquarium has developed visible algae and biofilm growth to provide adequate natural feeding opportunities.

As an herbivore, the Red Collar Snail requires a diet rich in marine algae and supplemental vegetable-based foods if natural grazing becomes limited.
