The Purple Firefish is a graceful and vividly colored dartfish featuring a pale front half that transitions into brilliant purple and magenta hues toward the tail and dorsal fin. Reaching an adult size of approximately 3 inches, this peaceful species is prized for its hovering swimming behavior and elegant appearance in reef aquariums. Purple Firefish are generally shy and may retreat to rock crevices when startled, especially during acclimation. They are best kept singly or as a bonded pair unless housed in very large aquariums.

The Purple Firefish thrives in peaceful reef aquariums with secure rockwork and plenty of hiding places. A covered aquarium of at least 20 gallons is recommended, as this species is an accomplished jumper when stressed. Purple Firefish should be added early in the stocking process before introducing larger or more aggressive tankmates that may intimidate them.

As a carnivore, the Purple Firefish benefits from frequent feedings of small meaty foods that are easy to capture in the water column.
