Powder Blue Tang — Acanthurus leucosternon

The Powder Blue Tang is a vibrant reef fish featuring an electric blue body, contrasting black face, white chest, and bright yellow dorsal fin, creating a striking visual in any marine aquarium. Active and agile, it spends much of its time grazing on algae along rockwork, helping control nuisance algae while adding dynamic movement to the tank. Generally peaceful with other species but territorial toward other tangs, it thrives in established reef systems.

Powder Blue Tangs thrive in mature reef tanks with stable water parameters, abundant live rock for grazing, and ample open swimming space. Introduce only to established systems to reduce stress and encourage natural foraging behavior. A minimum tank size of 125 gallons is recommended to support their active swimming and territorial needs.

Their diet should include algae-based foods such as Julian Sprung’s Sea Veggies, along with high-quality frozen or pellet foods from San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum to support vibrant coloration and overall health. Target feeding promotes active grazing and strong vitality.
