Niger Trigger — Odonus niger

The Odonus niger Niger Trigger is a large, striking reef fish with a deep blue body, bright red eyes, and powerful fins that give it an elegant, dynamic appearance in large aquariums. Active and bold, it swims continuously through the mid- to upper-water column, grazing on algae, sponges, and small invertebrates. While generally reef-tolerant, it may target smaller crustaceans and invertebrates, so caution is advised in heavily stocked reef tanks.

Niger Triggers thrive in established reef tanks with stable water parameters, ample swimming space, and abundant hiding places among rockwork. Introduce only to mature systems to reduce stress and ensure proper acclimation. A minimum tank size of 200 gallons is recommended to accommodate their active swimming and territorial behavior.

Their diet should include high-quality frozen or pellet foods from San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum, supplemented with meaty invertebrates and algae-based foods to mimic natural feeding. Target feeding encourages vibrant coloration and robust health.
