The Neon Dottyback is a brilliantly colored reef fish featuring an electric purple to magenta body contrasted by a vibrant neon yellow stripe that runs along its midsection. Reaching an adult size of approximately 3 inches, this species is known for its bold personality, quick movements, and constant patrolling of rockwork territories. While hardy and adaptable, Neon Dottybacks can be quite territorial toward smaller or similarly shaped fish, especially in more confined aquariums. Their intense coloration and energetic behavior make them a striking addition to reef displays.
The Neon Dottyback thrives in reef or fish-only aquariums with plenty of live rock that provides caves and tight hiding spaces for territory establishment. A minimum tank size of 30 gallons is recommended for a single specimen, with larger systems preferred when keeping multiple semi-aggressive species. This fish should be added after more peaceful tankmates are established to reduce territorial disputes.
