Lyretail Anthias - Female

The Lyretail Anthias are by far the most popular of the anthias species. Also known as the Scalefin Anthias, these active reef dwellers add movement and vitality to any reef aquarium.  Males tend to be brightly colored, while females remain a vibrant orange color. These shallow water, reef inhabitants thrive in a 125 gallon aquarium with one male and up to ten females. When a single, a 75 gallon tank is adequate. Anthias species all share the trait of being hermaphroditic. If a dominant male perishes or in the aquarium hobby is not purchased, the largest female of the group will often morph to a male and take that role.

Anthias do best when fed a varied diet of frozen mysis, enriched frozen brine shrimp, and over time may eat high-quality flake and pellets offered in small quantities multiple times per day.  Copepods and amphipods can also provide a steady supply of nutritious live food, sure to keep active planktivore content.
