The Jeweled Moray Eel is a striking marine eel featuring a deep brown to chocolate body covered in bright golden-yellow spots that give it a “jeweled” appearance. Reaching an adult size of approximately 24 inches, this species is a bold, predatory inhabitant that spends most of its time hiding within rockwork and emerging primarily at night or during feeding. While generally not aggressive toward fish too large to swallow, it is opportunistic and will consume small fish and crustaceans. Its secretive behavior and dramatic appearance make it a fascinating addition to predator or large reef systems.

The Jeweled Moray Eel thrives in secure marine aquariums with extensive rockwork that provides caves and tight crevices for shelter. A minimum tank size of 75 gallons is recommended for a single specimen, with a tightly secured lid required to prevent escape. This species should be added after tankmates are established and only in systems where compatible fish are too large to be considered prey.

As a carnivore, the Jeweled Moray Eel requires a diet of meaty marine foods offered in appropriate portions to match its feeding response. Offer Ocean Nutrition Silversides, PE Mysis (for smaller feedings), and finely chopped seafood such as shrimp, squid, and fish flesh to maintain strong health and growth.
