Species: Montipora spp.
Coral Type: Moderate SPS
Fire Starter Montipora is a small polyp stony coral prized for its intense, fiery coloration, typically featuring shades of bright red, orange, and sometimes hints of pink along its encrusting plates or ridges. The polyps are tightly packed and slightly textured, giving the colony a bumpy, vibrant surface. This Montipora grows steadily over rockwork, creating a dramatic and eye-catching display in SPS-focused reef aquariums. Under actinic or blue-spectrum lighting, its fluorescent pigments intensify, enhancing its “fire-like” appearance.
Coral Type: Moderate SPS
Lighting: Moderate to High lighting requirements (approximately 150–250 PAR)
Flow Rate: Moderate to High; indirect turbulence encourages polyp extension and prevents detritus buildup
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae; occasional target feeding with fine coral foods such as ReefRoids or Benereef can enhance growth and coloration
Aggression: Low toward neighboring corals, but allow space to prevent shading or overgrowth
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
