Species: Hydnophora rigida
Coral Type: LPS (Large Polyp Stony Coral) / Aggressive Stony Coral
Jason Fox Blueberry Blast Hydnophora is a high-impact, fast-growing LPS coral prized for its intense coloration and unique branching, encrusting growth form. This coral develops dense, textured colonies with raised nodules (“hydnophores”) that give it a rough, explosive appearance. The Blueberry Blast morph is especially valued for its vivid blend of deep blues, purples, and electric green highlights that fluoresce strongly under actinic lighting, creating a striking “electric berry” effect across the colony.
Known for its bold presence and rapid growth, this Hydnophora quickly encrusts and branches over nearby rock surfaces, making it a powerful visual centerpiece in larger reef systems.
Coral Type: LPS / Aggressive Stony Coral
Lighting: Moderate to High lighting requirements (approximately 150–300 PAR)
Flow Rate: Moderate to High; strong, random flow promotes healthy growth and helps prevent detritus accumulation
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae; benefits from occasional target feeding with meaty coral foods such as mysis shrimp, reef plankton, or fine LPS foods
Aggression: Highly Aggressive; possesses potent sweeper tentacles that can damage or kill nearby corals, requiring significant spacing
Placement: Best placed on isolated rock structures or dedicated zones where it cannot contact other corals as it expands rapidly
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
