Jason Fox Alien Pox Cyphastrea
Species: Cyphastrea spp.
Coral Type: Moderate SPS
Alien Pox Cyphastrea is a small polyp stony coral known for its unique, otherworldly coloration and dense encrusting growth pattern. Colonies typically display shades of green or teal with contrasting bright orange or reddish “pox-like” polyps that dot the colony surface, giving it a speckled, extraterrestrial appearance. The corallites are tightly packed and slightly raised, creating a textured honeycomb-like surface. Under actinic or blue reef lighting, the fluorescent pigments intensify, making the coral a visually striking addition to SPS-dedicated reef aquariums.
Coral Type: Moderate SPS
Lighting: Moderate to High lighting requirements (approximately 150–250 PAR)
Flow Rate: Moderate to High; indirect turbulence ensures polyps remain extended and prevents detritus buildup
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae; occasional target feeding with fine coral foods such as ReefRoids or Benereef can enhance growth and coloration
Aggression: Low toward neighboring corals, but allow space to prevent shading or overgrowth
Substrate: Best placed on rockwork or reef structures where the colony can encrust and expand naturally
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
