Islands Cyphastrea is a highly sought-after encrusting coral known for its dramatic polka-dot appearance and intense fluorescence. This coral grows as a thin, spreading encrusting mat that gradually covers rockwork, forming a textured surface dotted with brightly colored corallites. Depending on the morph, Islands Cyphastrea often displays vivid combinations of neon greens, blues, oranges, or reds against contrasting darker tissue, creating a “starry island” effect across the colony. Under actinic or blue-spectrum lighting, its fluorescent polyps become especially pronounced, making it a striking low-profile showpiece in reef aquariums.
