Hermit Crabs are small, reef-safe invertebrates with a soft, coiled abdomen protected by scavenged shells and a hard exoskeleton on their front body. Active and industrious, they scavenge for leftover food, detritus, and algae, helping maintain a clean and balanced aquarium while displaying engaging, natural behaviors. Their charming movement and shell-changing antics make them a favorite for hobbyists of all experience levels.

Hermit Crabs thrive in established reef tanks with stable water parameters, ample rockwork, and a supply of empty shells of various sizes for growth. Introduce only after the system is mature to reduce stress and ensure a healthy microfauna population. A minimum tank size of 10 gallons is recommended, with larger tanks preferred for multiple individuals.

Their diet can be supplemented with finely chopped or pellet foods from San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum, alongside natural detritus, algae, and microfauna grazing. Target feeding helps support health, activity, and shell maintenance.
