The Flame Hawkfish is a brilliantly colored reef fish prized for its intense red coloration, expressive eyes, and perching behavior among rockwork and corals. Growing to an adult size of approximately 4 inches, this species is bold, curious, and highly interactive with its environment. Flame Hawkfish are generally hardy and personable but may prey on very small ornamental shrimp and tiny crustaceans. The Flame Hawkfish thrives in reef and fish-only aquariums with abundant live rock structures that provide elevated perching locations and hiding spaces. A minimum tank size of 30 gallons is recommended for a single specimen. This species can be added at most stages of stocking but should not be housed with overly aggressive tankmates that may outcompete it during feeding.
