Flame Angel — Centropyge loricula
The Centropyge loricula Flame Angel is a brilliantly colored dwarf angelfish featuring fiery red-orange body tones accented with bold vertical black bars and electric blue fin edges. Energetic and curious, it spends its day weaving through rockwork and grazing on natural algae. While generally peaceful, it may show mild territorial behavior toward other dwarf angels, making it best kept singly in most reef setups. Its compact size and striking coloration make it a favorite among reef hobbyists seeking a vibrant showpiece fish.
Flame Angels thrive in mature reef tanks with plentiful rockwork for grazing and hiding. Add them only once the system is stable and well-established to support their active swimming and grazing habits. A minimum tank size of 55 gallons is recommended, with larger tanks preferred when housing multiple semi-aggressive species.
Their diet should include a mix of high-quality frozen and pellet foods from San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum, along with supplemental marine algae. For added nutrition, offer Julian Sprung’s Sea Veggies to support natural grazing behavior and vibrant coloration.
