The Exquisite Fairy Wrasse is a brilliantly colored reef fish known for its shimmering palette of blues, greens, reds, and purples that intensify under proper lighting. Reaching an adult size of approximately 4 inches, this species is an active and graceful swimmer that constantly explores the water column in search of food and social interaction. Males are especially vibrant and may display territorial behavior toward other fairy wrasses with similar coloration or body shape. Its peaceful nature toward most reef inhabitants and dazzling coloration make it a highly desirable species for community reef aquariums.
The Exquisite Fairy Wrasse thrives in mature reef systems with plenty of open swimming space and secure rockwork for sheltering at night. A minimum tank size of 55 gallons is recommended for a single specimen, though larger systems are preferred when keeping multiple wrasses. This species should be added after more timid fish are established but before highly dominant wrasses to reduce competition and stress.
As a carnivore, the Exquisite Fairy Wrasse requires frequent feedings of small, protein-rich marine foods to maintain its coloration and energy levels.
