ECC Spitfire Zoanthid

Species: Zoanthus sp.

Coral Type: Zoanthus

Physical Description: Spitfire Zoanthids are intense, high-contrast button polyps known for their fiery coloration and aggressive visual pop. Each polyp typically features a deep orange to molten red oral disk with a bright, glowing center that can shift toward yellow or neon gold under actinic lighting. This is often surrounded by a darker ring or subtly mottled gradient that enhances the “burning ember” effect across the colony. The skirts tend to carry darker maroon or smoky tones, adding depth and making the center coloration appear even more explosive. Under blue-spectrum lighting, the fluorescence becomes especially vivid, giving the colony a flickering, fire-like appearance reminiscent of ignition or flare bursts. As the colony matures, it spreads densely across rockwork and frag plugs, forming a tight, high-impact mat of glowing polyps.

Coral Type: Zoanthus
Lighting: Moderate (approximately 80–150 PAR)
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate with gentle, indirect flow
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic but may benefit from occasional broadcast feeding of fine particulate foods such as reef roids or phytoplankton
Aggression: Low; generally peaceful but can spread quickly over available substrate
Substrate: Best placed on rockwork, frag plugs, or isolated zoanthid garden areas where controlled spreading is desired

We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
