ECC Orange Helmet Fungia

Species: Fungia sp.

Coral Type: Plate Coral (LPS)

Physical Description: Orange Helmet Fungia corals are eye-catching free-living plate corals prized for their bold orange coloration and distinctive dome-shaped structure. Their broad circular skeleton is covered in radiating ridges and fleshy tissue that can display vibrant shades of glowing orange, often accented by lighter mouths or subtle contrasting highlights. Under actinic and blue-spectrum lighting, the coral fluoresces intensely, creating a vivid molten-orange appearance. Unlike many attached corals, Fungia are solitary and free-living, capable of resting directly on the substrate while expanding into a large, fleshy disk during the day.

Coral Type: Plate Coral (LPS)
Lighting: Moderate to High (approximately 100–200 PAR)
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate with gentle, indirect flow to prevent tissue damage
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic but benefits from occasional target feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, reef roids, or finely chopped seafood.
Aggression: Moderate; may extend feeder tentacles at night and should be given adequate space from neighboring corals.
Substrate: Best placed on sandy substrate or low rockwork where the coral can rest comfortably without sharp surfaces damaging its tissue.

We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health.
