ECC Lakers Zoanthid

Species: Zoanthus sp.

Coral Type: Zoanthus

Physical Description: Lakers Zoanthids are high-contrast, sports-inspired button polyps known for their bold purple and gold coloration. Each polyp typically features a rich royal purple oral disk accented by bright golden to yellow highlights that radiate from the center or form distinct rings, creating a striking two-tone “team color” effect. The skirts often deepen into darker violet or maroon tones, enhancing the vivid contrast between the core and outer ring. Under actinic and blue-spectrum lighting, the fluorescent pigments intensify dramatically, causing the gold tones to glow intensely against the deep purple base. As the colony matures, it spreads across rockwork and frag plugs, forming dense mats of unmistakably bold coloration.

Coral Type: Zoanthus
Lighting: Moderate (approximately 80–150 PAR)
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate with gentle, indirect flow
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic but may benefit from occasional broadcast feeding of fine particulate foods such as reef roids or phytoplankton
Aggression: Low; generally peaceful but will spread over available substrate over time
Substrate: Best placed on rockwork, frag plugs, or isolated zoanthid garden areas where controlled expansion is desired

We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health.
