Coral Banded Shrimp — Stenopus hispidus

The Stenopus hispidus Coral Banded Shrimp is a striking reef invertebrate with bold red and white banded legs, long white antennae, and delicate claws, making it a visually captivating addition to any reef tank. Peaceful and semi-social, it often perches on rockwork and may set up “cleaning stations,” removing parasites and detritus from fish. Its elegant movements and distinctive coloration make it both functional and decorative in mature reef systems.

Coral Banded Shrimp thrive in established reef tanks with stable water parameters, moderate flow, and plenty of rockwork for perching and hiding. Introduce only to mature systems to reduce stress and ensure successful acclimation. A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is recommended, with larger tanks ideal for multiple shrimp or diverse reef communities.

Their diet can be supplemented with finely chopped or pellet foods from San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum, in addition to natural scavenging of detritus. Target feeding supports health, vibrant coloration, and active behavior.
