Borbonius Anthias
Common Name - Blotched Anthias
Physical Description & Behavior
The Blotched Anthias (Odontanthias borbonius) is a striking deepwater species known for its soft pink to peach coloration accented by irregular golden blotches and subtle lavender hues. Adults typically reach up to 5–6 inches in length, with males often displaying more vibrant coloration. This species is generally peaceful but can be shy, especially when first introduced, preferring to hover near caves and ledges. Over time, they become more confident and will actively swim in the water column, particularly during feeding.
Suitable Tank Description
A minimum tank size of 125 gallons is recommended due to their adult size and need for stable water conditions. Provide a well-structured aquascape with ample caves and overhangs to replicate their natural deep water habitat. It is best to add Blotched Anthias after more aggressive tankmates have been established, as they can be easily intimidated during acclimation.
Diet
Blotched Anthias are planktivores and require frequent daily feedings to maintain optimal health and coloration. Offer a varied diet including PE Mysis, Hikari Brine Shrimp, and smaller particle foods such as PE Calanus or finely chopped frozen preparations.
