Blue Splatter Bubble Coral - #7608452
Common Name: Blue Splatter Bubble Coral
Species Name: Plerogyra sinuosa
Coral Type: LPS (Large Polyp Stony)
Physical Description:
Blue Splatter Bubble Coral is a unique and eye-catching LPS coral featuring inflated, bubble-like vesicles with a distinctive “splatter” pattern of blue to bluish-purple spotting over a lighter base. These grape-like vesicles expand during the day, giving the coral a soft, pillowy appearance with striking contrast and texture. Under actinic lighting, the blue markings and underlying tones fluoresce subtly, adding depth and visual interest to the reef. At night or during feeding, the vesicles retract to reveal delicate feeding tentacles, while the colony gradually forms a branching or clustered skeletal structure as it matures.
Lighting: Low to Moderate (approximately 50–120 PAR)
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate, gentle flow to protect delicate vesicles from damage
Food Requirements:
Primarily photosynthetic but benefits from occasional target feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or finely chopped marine proteins, especially when feeding tentacles are extended.
Aggression:
Moderate; capable of extending sweeper tentacles at night, so allow adequate spacing from neighboring corals
Substrate:
Best placed on sandbeds or lower rockwork in low-flow areas where its fragile vesicles can expand fully without disturbance
Aquaculture & Health Standards:
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are healthy, stable, and ready for your display aquarium.
