Black Ocellaris Clownfish - Amphiprion ocellaris

The Black Ocellaris Clownfish is normally found in association with anemones on the reefs. It can be found individually or in pairs or small groups within the same anemone such as Entacmaea quadricolor or any Entacmaea sp., Heteractis sp., Condylactis, or Macrodactyla sp. These clownfish grow to a maximum size of 3 inches in the reef aquarium and may be kept singly or in groups.

The Black Ocellaris Clownfish is very distinctive with its jet-black body and full white stripe(s) on each side. These fish are very hardy, are a good addition to any reed aquarium and are a perfect fish addition for the novice reef aquarist and the experienced aquarist.

All clowns are perfect as a mated pair. Females will be the largest of the pair and will typically stay very close to one another. As egg layers, these clowns will deposit their eggs on any flat surface and can be seen tending, monitoring and defending their eggs. Eggs normally hatch in 6-14 days depending on temperature. The fry must be separated from the main tank and feed a constant diet of rotifers and then baby brine shrimp.

Clownfish are omnivores, requiring both meaty foods as well as some greens, like seaweed, Nori in their diet. A high-quality marine flake food, rich in spirulina algae, as well as freeze dried and frozen foods such as mysis and spirulina enriched brine shrimp are a perfect diet for these hardy, reef safe inhabitants.
