Physical Description & Behavior:

The Bimaculatus Anthias is a vibrant and active planktivore known for its warm orange to pink body coloration accented by subtle purple hues and two faint “spot” markings along the dorsal area. Males develop extended fin streamers and more intense coloration, making them especially striking in a display. Reaching up to ~5–6 inches as adults, these anthias are constantly in motion, adding energy and movement to reef aquariums. Generally peaceful, they do best in small groups with one dominant male and multiple females.

Suitable Tank Size & Environment:

This species thrives in well-established aquariums with plenty of open swimming space and moderate rockwork for shelter. A minimum tank size of 90 gallons is recommended, especially when keeping a group. Provide moderate to strong flow and stable water conditions, and introduce them to mature systems with ample biological stability.

Diet:

As planktivores, Bimaculatus Anthias require frequent, varied feedings throughout the day. Offer a diet of finely sized meaty foods such as Mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality frozen blends like LRS Reef Frenzy or Hikari Mysis. They will also accept small pellet foods such as TDO Chroma Boost or New Life Spectrum when properly acclimated. Consistent feeding is key to maintaining their health and vibrant coloration.
