Common Name: Bicolor Foxface Rabbitfish
Species Name: Siganus uspi
Physical Description & Behavior:
The Bicolor Foxface Rabbitfish is a rare and visually striking species, featuring a dramatic contrast between a bright yellow front half and a deep, dark blue to black posterior. Its signature fox-like facial mask adds to its bold appearance, making it a true standout in any marine aquarium. Reaching up to ~9–10 inches as an adult, this species is hardy, active, and generally peaceful, though it may become shy when first introduced. Like other rabbitfish, it is reef-safe with caution and may nip at soft or fleshy corals if underfed. It also possesses venomous dorsal spines used strictly for defense—handle with care.
Suitable Tank Size & Environment:
This species thrives in well-established aquariums with plenty of swimming space, live rock for grazing, and secure hiding areas. A minimum tank size of 125 gallons is recommended to accommodate its adult size and active swimming behavior.
Diet:
Primarily herbivorous, the Bicolor Foxface is an excellent algae grazer and will readily consume nuisance algae. Supplement its diet with high-quality prepared foods such as Hikari Spirulina Brine Shrimp, Ocean Nutrition Formula 2, San Francisco Bay Brand Spirulina Mysis Shrimp, and New Life Spectrum Algae Pellets. For optimal health and natural feeding behavior, offer daily servings of marine algae like Julian Sprung’s Sea Veggies using an algae clip.
